ALEXANDER MCQUEEN HAS A DRESS FROM HIS SPRING/SUMMER 2010 COLLECTION ENCAPSULATED AT THE V&A MUSEUM...

Well what a cultural weekend I’ve had… from viewing the latest Christie’s sale (some gorgeous pieces of 20th Century furniture) to strolling around the V&A’s fabulous Fashion Collection.

The garments that were on display suggested some of the characteristics of London fashion.

I loved the notion of masculine meets feminine with Dolce & Gabbana’s 2004-2005 velvet suit with glitzy accessories (see my pic above). I could see Cate Blanchett, Blake Lively or Kate Moss rocking this ensemble today…

My fave piece had to be a suitcase that was made by French handbag maker Longchamp in 2004. Longchamp commissioned Margate artist Tracey Emin to design a group of bags. Her suitcase, entitled ‘International Women,’ is one of a limited edition of 200!

It seems Tracey Emin beat Kate Moss with collaboration with Longchamp long before Moss had been considered…

Most special of the entire Fashion Collection at the V&A had to be a short reptile-patterned dress from the late Alexander McQueen; this dress came from his 'Leagues under the Sea’ collection just before his suicide earlier this year.

This short, belled-skirt dress from McQueen’s last Spring/Summer 2010 collection, had pride of place in its own glass capsule in the centre of the room, and i'm sure it will for some time...
